Digital Dental X-Rays –
Maintain Your Dental and Oral Health

Digital dental x-rays are a diagnostic tool that can spot issues that can’t be found during a visual exam, such as growths, jaw damage, and impacted teeth. The process is quick, simple, and painless, and can prevent serious issues from developing. For this reason, dental x-rays often save patients a lot of time, money, and unnecessary pain down the line.

What Are The Different Kinds of Dental X-Rays?

There are several kinds of dental x-rays that we may perform, and each offers a different view of the mouth. The most common types of x-ray we perform are intraoral, and include:

Bitewing x-rays examine the alignment of the crowns of your teeth, and are typically used to spot interdental cavities.
Occlusal x-rays are used to assess how well your upper and lower teeth line up, and can spot abnormalities in the mouth.
Periapical x-rays examine two full teeth, from crown to root.

If we suspect that there may be issues with your jaw, we may perform an extraoral x-ray, which examines the areas outside of the teeth and gums.

What Will My Dental X-Ray Appointment Involve?

Our dental hygienist will guide you through the process during your appointment, answering any questions you may have. They may leave the room while the x-rays are taken, and you will be asked to stay still to get a clear image.

Spacers may be used to adjust your mouth during the x-ray, and these will be moved around by our hygienist accordingly.

If you are having just one tooth x-rayed, the procedure will take a few minutes, whereas a full mouth x-ray is typically completed in about 25 minutes.

Digital radiography exposes the patient to a significantly reduced amount of radiation compared to traditional radiography, and the images can be viewed immediately on a computer.

Who Are Dental X-Rays For?

If you are having issues with your teeth, gums, or jaw, an x-ray can help us to identify the problem. We may recommend a dental x-ray during your 6-monthly checkup to ensure we don’t miss anything during the visual examination.
